In 2024, American Legacies Org, started a new tradition.
Christmas is the biggest holiday of the year where people are supposed to share the day with family.
However, it is also the time of the year where more people commit suicide, partially because they don't have access to family to share it with. As a result of that situation, for many years, some of our volunteers have been gathering up elderly individuals that live alone and don't get the chance to spend Christmas Dinner with their children or any other family.
We would reach out to these Senior Citizens and invite them to join us at various restaurants around the country. In some cases, we would even transport them to the restaurants, if they didn't have access to transportation.
Well, in 2024, we tried something different in one of our locations as a test.
We rented a commercial building that we could use on Christmas Day and decided to throw a Christmas Party, complete with a full meal, decorations, music and even cash prizes for the best holiday costumes.
We promoted the meals as FREE to any Senior Citizen that didn't have family available to share it with on Christmas Day. We bought a special Christmas Cake made that said, "Happy Birthday Jesus."
All of the other food was cooked and served by volunteers.
The dinner was a major success and the star of the group was a 99 Year Old Viola Masterson that sang a song in German and played the Harmonica.
To see the love, joy and happiness at that dinner was priceless, so we decided that we would do that again this year.
