Fried Italian Cookies

12 egg yolks

1 1/2 tablespoons baking powder

8 tablespoons sugar

vanilla

flour-until stiff.

 

Directions: Roll out very thin. Cut into strips. Cut a slit in the middle (of the strip) and pull one end thru. Fry in hot oil. Fry one side and then the other side.

 

Drain on paper towel. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.

 

 

Shoofly Pie

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 cup butter

1/2 cup light molasses(dark will also work)

1/2 cup hot water

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1 unbaked 8-in pastry shell

 

Directions:

Thoroughly stir together the flour, sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon baking soda.

Cut in butter till mixture is crumbly. Set aside.

Stir together molasses, hot water, and 1/4 teaspoon baking soda.

Pour one third of the molasses mixture into unbaked pastry shell,

sprinkle with one third of the flour mixture.

Repeat these layers, ending with layer of the flour mixture.

 

Bake at 375 degrees for about 40 minutes. Cool. Cut and eat.

 

 

Apple Butter

18 Gallons Cider

4 Buckets Snitz (Dried Apples)

12 lbs Granulated Sugar

Boil 4 hours.

 

 

Mrs K’s Small Chocolate Drop Cakes

 

 

White of 5 eggs

Beat stiff, not dry

 

1 lb xxxx sugar, Pulverized

1 cake Bakers Chocolate

2 Egg Yokes Beaten

Pinch SaltPinch

Cinnamon

 

Combine all ingredients. Put in ice box 1 hour. Drop by spoonfuls on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 300 degrees until done.

 

 

Brown Derby Black Bottom Pie

1 Envelope Knox Gelatin

1 cup Sugar

1/8 tsp. Salt

1 Egg Yolk, slightly beaten

1 cup Milk

4 Squares Bakers Unsweetened Chocolate

 

1 cup Icy Cold Evaporated Milk, Whipped

1 tsp. Vanilla

1 Baked 9” Pie Shell

1 cup Cream, Whipped and Sweetened

 

Directions:

Mix gelatin, sugar and Salt in top of double boiler.

Combine egg yolk and milk and add to gelatin mixture.

Add 3 squares of chocolate.

 

Cook over boiling water until chocolate is melted, stirring often.

 

Remove from heat and beat with egg beater,

then fold in whipped evaporated milk and vanilla.

 

Pile into pie shell and chill.

 

Spread with whipped cream.

 

Shave remaining square of chocolate into long curls with vegetable slicer.

Sprinkle over pie and stick widest curls upright.

 

 

Sausage Cheese Balls

1 lb sausage, mild or hot, not cooked

12 oz cheddar cheese, grated

3 cups baking mix

 

Directions:

Mix well with hands and form into 1 inch balls.

Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes, or until golden brown.

 

 

Monster Cookies

1 lb margarine

2 lbs brown sugar

4 c sugar

12 eggs

1 T vanilla

1 T white syrup

8 t baking soda

18 c oatmeal

3 lb crunchy peanut butter

1 lb M & Ms

1 12 oz pkg chocolate chips

 

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix ingredients in LARGE bowl.

Drop with tablespoon or ice cream scoop.

Flatten with back of spoon.

Bake 14 minutes. They will be soft when first taken out of oven.

 

Let cool a few minutes before removing so they do not break.

 

 

Whipped Cream Icing

1 cup milk

5 tablespoons flour

 

Cook until custard consistency.

 

Cream:

1 cup butter

1 cup sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

 

Add first to second, a spoonful at a time until like whipped cream!
