1/2 cup butter
1 cup sweet milk
2 cups flour
1 cup corn starch
3 tea spoons baking powder

1 cup shortening

1 tea spoon soda dissolved in water
1 tea spoon ginger
1/2 tea spoon cinnamon
1 quart flour
1 cup raisins

1/2 cup butter, rub very good
then add sweet milk

Directions: make dough to soft to roll, bake in quick oven

3 scant cups flour

4 lbs confectioners sugar
1 coconut large
1 tea spoon vanilla to each lb.
1 tea spoon vinegar to each lb.

beat well 5 minutes
large pinch cream tarter
3 1/2 table spoon cocoa & chopped nuts if wanted

Directions: put on wax paper, 30 minutes oven 300

Mrs Smaltz Butter Chews
3/4 cup butter
3 table spoons granulated sugar
1 1/2 cup flour
3 eggs yokes beaten
2 1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup nuts, cut fine
3/4 cup shredded coconut
3 egg whites, stiffly beaten
confectioners sugar
Cream the butter and sugar & beat well, Then blend through with the flour.
Pat mixture into a greased pan
bake in 375 oven for 15 minutes
add the brown sugar to the beaten eggs, yokes.
blend well
Add nuts and coconut,
then fold in beaten egg whites.

Directions: Pour over the baked mixture. Cut in squares and dust with confection

14 cups corn
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup salt
1 cup sugar

Directions: Mix it well and work it good. Boil 15 minutes

More Notes: I have no idea who Mrs. Kreider was but there was a Mr & Mrs Harry Kreider & son, Mr George Kreider, Mrs. Katie Kreider, Elizabeth Kreider, Mr & Mrs Ammon S. Kreider & Son that attended the funeral for Lizzie's husband, Harvey Hostetter in 1955.
