Twenty years ago, in Nashville, Tennessee, during the first week of January, 1996, more than 4,000 baseball coaches descended upon the Opryland Hotel for the 52nd annual ABCA's convention.

While I waited in line to register with the hotel staff, I heard other more veteran coaches rumbling about the lineup of speakers scheduled to present during the weekend. One name kept resurfacing, always with the same sentiment — “John Scolinos is here? Oh, man, worth every penny of my airfare.”

Who is John Scolinos, I wondered. No matter; I was just happy to be there.

Today's history lesson!

1792 - Kentucky was the first state on the western frontier to join the Union .

A young man went to seek an important position at a large printing company. He passed the initial interview and was going to meet the director for the final interview. The director saw his resume, it was excellent. And asked,'

"Have you received a scholarship for school?" The boy replied, "No".

'It was your father who paid for your studies? '' Yes.' He replied.

'Where does your father work? ' 'My father is a Blacksmith'

The Director asked the young man to show him his hands.

Jackie Brown

Hi, I am seeking info for a friend of my daughter. He wants to know where his dad might be. Can you help? His blood father's name is Jackie Brown, possibly with the middle name Lloyd. He was born around 1960, possibly in Texas. Jackie had a child out of wedlock with Carla Denise Germann. This is a nice kid. He turned 17 years old yesterday. Thank-you for your time.

As we embark on a new year, I have been reflecting on the growth that was accomplished during the past year and busy planning new goals for the coming year.

I would like to start this editorial by thanking the many volunteers that have dedicated so much time, effort and energy into helping us during the past year.

Honouring WWI Mascot Dog Stubby, 1916 - 1926

Sergeant Stubby was an American dog who served as the mascot of America’s 102nd Infantry Regiment during the First World War.

Stubby was stowed away on a ship to France by a young soldier called Robert Conroy and went on to participate in four offensives and 17 battles.

A New Year. A chance for new growth, new accomplishments, new hopes and dreams. One of the traditional images of New Years Day, is the Old Man Time being replaced by the New Year’s Baby.

As we mature, our goals, ideas and thoughts change. As a young man, I would look forward to the celebrations and parties or new chances at having a better year facing me, then the year that had past.
