A Typical Thanksgiving Day

We would plan and look forward to Thanksgiving Day for a week or two.
On Thanksgiving Day, we got up early and headed out to some of our families house. Sometimes we went to our parents, sometimes to Viola’s sisters or to the home of Viola and myself.

A house is a house unless its your Grandmas house then its special.
I know because I have childhood memories of my Grandmas special house in a German neighborhood now known as Wrigleyville, two blocks from Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs.

The early 1900s watched families grow whether you lived on a rural farm or in the ethnic neighborhoods of booming cities. Brothers and sisters often paint different pictures of the same family events. Birth order and whether male or female sex determined the responsibilities in the family.

Ann Margaret and Her Gentlemen!

Richard, (my husband), never really talked a lot about his time in Viet Nam other than he had been shot by a sniper. However, he had a rather grainy, 8 x 10 black and white photo he had taken at a USO show of Ann Margaret with Bob Hope in the background. That was one of his treasures.

Martha's Way
Stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of a sugar cone to prevent ice cream drips.
Maxine's Way
Just suck the ice cream out of the bottom of the cone, for Pete's sake! You are probably lying on the couch with your feet up eating it, anyway!

To keep potatoes from budding, place an apple in the bag with the potatoes.

Buy Hungry Jack mashed potato mix and keep it in the pantry for up to a year.
A Purple Heart is displayed in Washington, DC, at the Society of the Cincinnati's Anderson House Museum and another at Washington's Headquarters State Historic Site in Newburgh, New York.
Attached to the piece of dark blue cloth is a purple heart of silk, bound with braid and edged with lace. The cloth is believed to be part of the uniform or the tunic of a soldier of the Continental Army. There is no name, rank or regimental insignia on the piece of cloth.
