Mrs. Myra A. Feaster

The funeral of Mrs Myra A. Feaster, 306 West Cumberland Street, took place this afternoon at Rohland Funeral Home where scores of friends viewed the body and also attended the services.

Rev. J. Calvin Keene, of Cleona and Rev. McComsey of Lancaster, pastor of the local Pentecostal Mission, officiated and the bearers were John, Robert, and Wayne Miller, John Biever, John Keenan and Andrew Mitro. The remains were intered . . .

Back in the good old days of my youth, freezers were a new thing and very few people could afford them, so we used Hot Water Bath Canning instead. So this month, I will tell you how Hot Water Bath Canning was and is still done.

It is the oldest way to can food in jars to preserve it. Not just vegetables and fruit were done but meat was also done the same way.

In George Washington's days, there were no cameras. One's image was either sculpted or painted. Some paintings of George Washington showed him standing behind a desk with one arm behind his back while others showed both legs and both arms. Prices charged by painters were not based on how many people were to be painted, but by how many limbs were to be painted. Arms and legs are "limbs," therefore painting them would cost the buyer more. Hence the expression: "Okay, but it'll cost you an arm and a leg."

One interesting side note that I have read in the past is that when radio first came on the scene people did not just take up immediately with the idea of radio listening each evening.

Helen Held nee Parker is in her late 80s. The photograph above shows her standing beside her mother, three of her mothers sisters and Helen’s grandmother, Amelia Hasenmyer nee Kebortz. This photograph was taken around 1921 or 1922 at her grandmother’s house.

The Trylon and Perisphere, represented the World of Tomorrow theme of the 1939 New York Worlds Fair. The Trylon, a triangular tower, measured 610 feet high, and the Perisphere, a globe, measured 180 feet in diameter.
