My father, Howard (Howie) Stephenson idolized his older brother Harry whom everyone called Clark. The nickname stuck as a child while living on Clark Street in Chicago. As adults, the brothers fondly recanted such antics as shooting Christmas ornaments off the tree with new BB guns, while surviving their mothers wrath.

Grandchildren are precious to everyone.

No matter what age, they are so much fun.

As they grow older they have their lives, yet.

They are our grandchildren and don’t forget.

Grandchildren know we are their friend,

And realize on us they can depend.

December 26, 1999, Jerry Franks got a hole in one. It was an accomplishment he has been working toward since he moved here in 1936, when he was six months old. Franks, 63, was born in San Francisco. As he recalls, his interest in golf did not begin in the city. It was the atmosphere that surrounds the Pacifica Golf Course that molded his attitude toward the game in his infancy. Franks didn’t actually begin playing golf until fifteen years ago, but his life has always revolved around the Sharp Park course.

I never believed in reincarnation mostly due to my upbringing. When we die we go to Heaven or Hell. In these last few months my beliefs haven’t changed towards the Almighty God, but I have begun to see how those loved ones that have passed on can come back to finish what needs to be finished and say what needs to be said.

June is usually a graduation and wedding month. My wedding was to be a June wedding, but when my

fiancee asked me what I wanted for my April 4th birthday, I said, Why not get married now rather than wait until June? The following is how the wedding got off the ground. The first part is documented by Myra Riley, my mother.

Plain Dressing for Chicken or Turkey

1 cup stale bread crumbs

1 tablespoon chopped parsley

Grated rind of half a lemon

1 teaspoon mixed herbs

1/3 cup melted butter or suet

1/2 cup scalding water or milk

Salt and pepper

Crumble the bread finely, add the parsley, lemon rind, herbs, salt and pepper. Chop the suet and add to the other ingredients; or if butter is used, melt it in the water or milk and add, mixing well. Fill the body of the bird with the dressing.

For stuffing turkey, double all the ingredients.

Jack Dale Asher entered the US Army August 17, 1949 at Evansville, Indiana. He was attached to the 3rd. Armored Division and served his basic training at Fort Knox, KY. From there, he was assigned to Fort Benning, Ga. where he served as an M.P.
