Left-Hand Picture shows British Officer in Macedonia issuing permits to natives to use roads. All travel being under military restrictions. Schoolhouse has been utilized as registration office. The teachers desk having been hauled out for the Officer to use. Right-Hand Picture shows British soldier behind Somme Front in France making wooden crosses to mark graves of the dead. French Government says that graveyards will be permanently preserved.

In 1947, Billy was found guilty, by a Court Martial at Catterick Camp, of playing table tennis in the NAAFI while on guard duty. The military considered this offense more serious than the capricious soldier and sentenced him to 56 days detention.

Helen Held nee Parker is in her late 80s. The photograph above shows her standing beside her mother, three of her mothers sisters and Helen’s grandmother, Amelia Hasenmyer nee Kebortz. This photograph was taken around 1921 or 1922 at her grandmother’s house.

You could tell that my one-room school was a backward school the first time you saw it. The back of the school was turned toward the road. The road used to be on the side of the school between the school and the creek. This gave us a little more playground. Crawford County has the lowest value land in the state of Indiana, but the trustee had the school built on less than one acre.
